Piano to MIDI
Convert a piano recording to MIDI with a model built for piano: both hands, tempo, bars and key. Works from a phone recording or any audio file.
A piano recording, with its tempo, bars and both hands.
How it works
- 1Record the piano (a phone on the music stand is fine) or use any audio file.
- 2Drop it onto the box above (Piano is already selected).
- 3Check both hands in the piano roll and play it back.
- 4Download the MIDI with its tempo, time signature and bars.
A model trained only on piano
General audio-to-MIDI models struggle with piano chords and the sustain pedal. Piano mode uses a dedicated piano transcription model, then works out the tempo, time signature and bar lines and splits the notes into right and left hand.
In our tests on real recordings it got the key right on 9 of 10 pieces and most notes right even on fast fugues.
Recording tips
- Put the phone close to the piano, not across the room.
- Use less pedal than usual if you can: a blurred pedal makes notes run together.
- A quiet room matters more than an expensive microphone.
Questions
Is it free?
Piano mode runs on our servers, so free accounts get a 30-second preview. Pro converts whole pieces up to 15 minutes.
Can I get sheet music?
Not yet: today you get MIDI, which any notation program (MuseScore, Sibelius, Dorico) can turn into a score. Direct sheet music export is coming.
What happens to my recording?
It's sent to our server, converted, and deleted. We keep no copy.
